Fr. Scott lives the vision of Nativity
Fr. Scott McDermott grew up in Fargo and attended Nativity Church with his family. As a youngster, he was an altar server and still credits his dedication to his faith to the Nativity family he grew up with. Fr. Scott is currently serving as a priest in the Diocese of Monterrey, Mexico at the parish of Santa Teresa. Monterrey is the 3rd largest city in Mexico and, according to Fr. Scott, is a city of two extremes – the extremely poor and some of the wealthiest people in the country. Nativity parishioners help Fr. Scott with his ministry through the Social Justice disbursement. Fr. Scott has used the money to help young people pay for books for college, bus fares to attend classes and food for orphaned children. He has said in the past that an education is one of the best defenses a young person has against continuing the cycle of poverty in Monterrey.
