The first game was played against St. Anthony’s. They won the game 21-3. In fact with the 18 run rule they called the game on us after 4 innings. Oops! The short game gave us an extended intermission before our next game.
We haven’t had any practices. I guess St. Anthony’s has practiced numerous times since late May. It may have showed during this game.
The second game was more exciting. We played Holy Cross. The game was tied at 9 in the 6th inning. The umpire said it was the last inning due to the 1 hour time limitation/game. We batted first in the last inning and didn’t score. They were last at bat and had 2 people on the bases when a young man stepped up to the plate and that’s when I knew it was over – he hit a home run. They won 12-9.
Overall, our record is 2-2. We’ll get better and better. The main thing is that most kids just enjoy being there with fellow youth – win or lose. There a few that really want to win. We’ll step up the strategy and see if we can have both wins and lots of fun at the same time.
As far as player of the week all our players are selected as winners. They came to have fun and networked as a result of their faith and friendship.
I’d like to recognize Melinda Schadler too for her efficient communication with e-mails and organizational efforts. I’d like to also recognize Al Schadler for preparing the game roster – batting orders and positions. This is vital and we strive to get maximum player time for each player.
We welcome all parents, parishioners, and whoever likes to come out and enjoy a Thursday evening of softball. The games are at Centennial Fields in northeast Moorhead. Our next games are this Thursday July 2nd at 7 and 8 PM.
