When all is said and done as we explore what the chaplet is about, we will find at the very core of this prayer and petition the plea (For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion have Mercy on us and on the whole world.)

It is a prayer form given by Jesus Himself to St. Faustina with the command to spread it throughout the world. He also made many promises that would result from the fervent use of the chaplet.

Through Pope John Paul II, St. Faustina was canonized in April of 2000. She was born in Poland growing up in a life of hard work on their farm. As a young woman she gave her heart to the Lord and the religious life. During her brief life our Lord visited her numerous times and asked her to have a painting of Him made with two large rays, one red which stands for his blood that was shed for us, and one pale ray which stands for the cleansing water which makes souls righteous. These two rays signify His tender mercy reaching out to us. This picture conveys the message of His Divine Mercy that Jesus himself passed on to our generation through St. Faustina. In the picture, at the feet of Jesus is the signature that says “Jesus I Trust In You.”

In 2001 Divine Mercy Sunday ( the first Sunday after Easter) was made an official Solemnity of the Church. If we make a fervent confession, receive Holy Eucharist, and pray the chaplet on that day our Lord has promised to absolve us from all our sins and all punichment due to sin.  Many testimonials from people who have a deep devotion to the chaplet speak of powerful changes in their lives and in the lives of their families and loved ones.

We are hoping to develop a time of communal devotion to the chaplet here at Nativity. Come join us on the first Friday of the month at 3PM and on the third Friday of the month at 12:30 PM. Father Gary will be leading us in this devotion when possible.
