Good News from Churches United

July 23, 2009
By

We recently received a gracious thank-you from Churches United for the Homeless for our on-going monthly financial support through Nativity Care and Share. The following update was also included.

We are now just over half way through the year and we are very pleased with all we have been able to accomplish through our volunteers and financial supporters. For the past few months we have been diligently working on sprucing up our shelter and wanted to share with you some of the projects that have been completed.

  • All of our family rooms received new paint, carpeting, and window treatments through the efforts of the Keller Williams Realty group and the many vendors they brough together for this project.
  • Our dining room was completely repainted by members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Moorhead.
  • Karen Bakke painted a large cheerful mural in the family lounge and also in a number of the family rooms.
  • Moorhead High School’s Student Council spruced up the outside grounds and our children’s playground area.
  • Volunteers from the United Way’s Day of Giving finished painting the family/womens’ lounge and also our new Food Pantry.
  • Both Gate City Bank and Hope Lutheran donated large freezers for our kitchen.
  • Added 2 new family rooms and one more women’s dorm.

This is only a partial list of what has been accomplished thus far. In the coming months we hope to finish painting the men’s dorms and lounge and this fall we will be rolling out a new Food Pantry base on a “Choice Model.”  We are also in the process of looking at adding a second day of operation to our Pantry to meet the growing demand in our community.

Contact Joann Peterson ( at 232-4584 ) who coordinates our Nativity volunteers at Churches United if you would like to be involved there. Also, thanks to Gene Johnson who has volunteered to join Joann as Nativity’s representatives at Churches United.
