Isaiah 49:14-15; 1 Corinthians 4:1-5; Matthew 6:24-34 These words of Jesus are especially hard for our 21st Century American ears to hear. Everything that we are taught seems to lead up to tomorrow. We have to get good grades in high school so that we can get into a good college. We have to get into a good college so that we can get a good job. We have to get a good job so that we can make lots of money and retire early. But if you think about it we are constantly being taught to be concerned today about some unknown tomorrow. The problem with this type of thinking is that we can spend so much time preparing for the future that we forget to live for today.
Our theme for the God’s Gift Appeal 2010: “For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.” (I Cor. 3:9) In St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians we are encouraged to use the gifts God has given us to further His kingdom. We are asked to build a solid Christian foundation by knowing and living His teachings. We must carefully build upon His solid foundation since no other foundation can be laid. We are His co-workers and His partners. We are God’s temple. His spirit lives in us! He also created and called us to be prudent stewards. We are to share the gift of time and treasure for the benefit of all. Each one of us does the work the Lord has given us to do. The quality of each person’s work will be seen when the days of Christ exposes it. We rejoice in His word, and recognize that we are stewards of a precious treasure; our Catholic faith. We are [...]
