Parents are the first teachers of faith

catechist

Answering Yes

Thirty years ago when I was asked to be a teacher of religion (catechist) at Nativity Parish, I was honored to be asked but I began to list all of my limitations.  I started to suggest some others who might be considered first.   Then I was interupted with the words, “You aren’t being asked who should be the first grade catechist.  You are being asked if you would be one of our first grade catechists”. The way the question was put made all the difference in the world.

Each of us is being asked not who should be a disciple of the Lord, but if you would be his disciple.

All elementary team catechists are asked to attend two preparation evenings in the fall.  Please contact the office of Faith Formation directly at 701-232-2414 to speak with Kathy Bourdon and learn more about the elementary programs offered at Nativity and how you can get involved.

Nativity Church is committed to providing a safe environment for all members of our faith community, especially the young. In accordance with the Diocese of Fargo, all parish volunteers must be compliant with all diocesan and parish guidelines before they may participate in parish ministry.

Why be a catechist?  Because our children need you.  Wednesday evenings, 6:30-7:30 PM

Find a friend and volunteer to teach together
Pick the class level you wish to team teach
Junior and senior high youth make awesome team teachers
Husbands and wives together make a great team
Grandparents have a special impact on small children
Give back to your parish and grow as an adult Catholic
Live out your baptismal call to serve God and others
It is fun!
