International Day of the Girl – October 11th

The International Day of the Girl is an international observance day declared by the United Nations to support more opportunity for girls and to increase awareness of inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence and child marriage.

Improving the quality of life for girls not only affects the girls themselves but also the families and communities they will help to create. Many of those who work in global development are convinced that the best way to reduce extreme poverty is to educate girls.
