Baptism is normally done by immersion. The baby’s body--not the head--is immersed 3 times while the presider says the words of baptism. Baptism is normally celebrated within the Christian community during the Liturgy.
Arrival time: Please arrive approximately 15 minutes before the Liturgy, set your baptismal clothing in the Sacristy, and a diaper bag in your pew, if you would like. Then meet in the Fireside Room where a presider will meet you and lead you into the church where you will begin at the baptismal font.
Baby's attire: Before baptism, the baby may wear a onesie and diaper. Baby should be wrapped in a receiving blanket. Following baptism, baby may be changed in the sacristy during the collection of the gifts.
During the Homily: Please remove the onesie and open the diaper during the Homily. (Please make sure you have extra diapers for emergencies.) When the choir/or cantor begins to sing the Litany of the Saints, you follow the presider to the baptismal font. Please bring the towel provided.
Family and Relatives: Relatives may sit with you in the pew reserved for you. They may go back to the baptismal font with you.
Photo memories: Only flashless photography and video are allowed. We do not want to distract from the liturgy. Photographers should stay in their pews for the same reason.
Photos after the liturgy: Please remember, there is only 1/2 hour between Liturgies. In order to smoothly transition from one Liturgy to another, we ask that you watch the time when taking photos.
Please share a photo of the baptism with us. The picture can be emailed (office@nativitycatholicchurch.net) to us or dropped off at the office.
